Grill Power Vol. 2: Robyn Lindars
By: Karly Forsythe
If you’ve spent any time in the BBQ world, chances are you’ve seen Robyn Lindars, on TV, at competitions, or firing up something wild on Instagram as @GrillGirlRobyn.
She’s not just a pitmaster, she’s a pioneer. A longtime advocate for women in grilling, Robyn’s been spreading the gospel of live fire cooking since 2008. Her goal? Make grilling accessible, healthy, and just plain fun, especially for women who’ve been told (directly or indirectly) to "leave it to the guys."
We caught up with Robyn to talk about her wild entry into BBQ, the moments she’s been overlooked, and why she’s still fired up after more than a decade at the grill.
From Singed Eyebrows to a Smokin’ Career
Robyn’s journey to BBQ greatness didn’t start with a family recipe, it started with an accident.
“I went to use my boyfriend’s (now husband) old grill and almost set my eyebrows on fire,” she laughed. “So I bought him a new one, and then got completely hooked myself.”
That single purchase turned into a full-blown obsession. She launched GrillGirl.com to document her recipes and encourage other women to give grilling a try.
“Grilling isn’t just for the guys,” she said. “It’s an awesome way to eat healthier, spend time outside, and avoid a pile of dirty dishes.”
Yes, She’s Felt Underestimated
Robyn is no stranger to being the only woman at the pit, or being underestimated because of it.
“I’ve been grilling since 2008, and people still default to the ‘big dude with a beard’ as their BBQ expert,” she said. “Meanwhile, I’ve grilled everything from alligator to iguana, and even cooked a whole hog I harvested myself, but a guy does the same thing, and he gets the credit.”
She’s quick to call out the double standard, but she doesn’t let it slow her down.
“I just keep doing my thing. I’ve always been ahead of the curve, and by the time something catches on, I’m usually already onto the next.”
Grill in a Dress
One of Robyn’s main goals has always been to break down the idea that grilling has to be grungy or macho.
“I tell women: You don’t need to look like a pitmaster stereotype. Grill in a dress, a bikini, whatever makes you feel confident,” she said. “You’re the queen of your home, so why not take the party outside?”
Robyn isn’t just talking the talk either. She hosts Women’s Grilling Clinics to teach outdoor cooking basics in a fun, welcoming environment.
“These classes are about empowering women, and showing them that if I can do it at 5’1”, so can you.”
What She’s Known For
Robyn’s signature? Grilling the unexpected. Think: mango cobbler, fire-roasted jalapeño margaritas, grilled romaine salads, and more.
“Early press came from that cobbler recipe, and I’ve just kept pushing the boundaries since then,” she said. “I love surprising people with what a grill can really do.”

Still Work to Do
Robyn says the industry has made some progress when it comes to representation, but not enough.
“Social media’s helped show that women grill too. But flip through a grill brand catalog or walk into a hardware store, it’s still all dudes,” she said. “We need the industry to catch up and actually show women in these roles.”
Her Advice: It’s Easier Than You Think
“If dudes have been doing it this long, clearly it can’t be that hard,” Robyn joked.
In all seriousness, she says the barrier to entry has never been lower, thanks to tools like pellet grills and online tutorials.
“That’s why I created my Grill School series on YouTube, to walk women through it all step-by-step. Lighting the grill, prepping food, making it fun. You don’t need experience. You just need a spark.”
What’s Next
Robyn’s next big project? Hosting a Women’s Grilling Clinic at her Florida ranch in February 2026, featuring championship-level guests like Brooke Lewis from The Shed BBQ, Sunny Moody, and Carla Di Lorenzo.
She’s also working on a new cookbook focused on animal-based and low-tox cooking — and of course, creating new recipes every week over on GrillGirl.com.
